BATEMAN'S
A VISUAL IDENTITY BUILT AROUND LANGUAGE – WHERE TYPOGRAPHY PLAYS THE LEADING ROLE
Bateman’s is a one-man strategy and writing consultancy, focused on shaping tone, language, and narrative for brands working internationally in English.

The identity was developed with a deliberately restrained approach. A calm, classic palette of deep blue and white forms the foundation, allowing the focus to remain on the words themselves.

Typography became the central element. After an extended search for the right voice, the choice fell on Doves Type – a serif typeface with a remarkable history. Originally created in the early 20th century, the metal type was famously thrown into the River Thames following a dispute between its creators. Decades later, it was painstakingly recovered and digitally reconstructed, bringing the typeface back into use.

This sense of quiet persistence and dedication to craft made it a natural fit – both in tone and in character.

As a small extension of the identity, a limited series of steel bookends was produced, featuring the typeface’s distinctive apostrophe in enlarged form. A subtle but tangible object, echoing the focus on language and detail.
