I work mostly by intuition, but spend a lot of time researching as a way of guiding and validating my instincts. I’m especially drawn to visual balance... I’m not looking for symmetry, just harmony.
I like to stay close to the process and follow an idea the whole way through, watching how the pieces come together as a whole. From the first rough sketches to the final details, what I'm really chasing is tone, cohesion, and a sense that something is simply right.
My biggest gift is probably my sensitivity to what the client needs and is trying to express about the visual look and feel of their brand or product. We’re good listeners! Once I understand what you’re looking for, I begin obsessing over texture, weight, and especially colour - which seems to be how I experience the world.
Working closely with clients, I often end up translating thoughts, instincts, and half-formed ideas into something you can hold. It's both the best and the hardest part of the job, and it tends to lead somewhere more personal, and more precise.
A lot of it comes down to feel, which isn't always easy to explain in a meeting. But it's usually what makes the difference.
VISUAL BALANCE CAN’T BE MEASURED – YOU HAVE TO FEEL IT.
